Service Description
Handbuilding is fun when you have lots of tools, textures, and forms. I have two different patterns/forms you can use to make covered butterdishes out of slabs. Even if you don't have lots of experience, you'll be able to roll out a slab, decorate it, and shape using the methods I can teach you. This class includes all the clay and tools you need! I will bisque fire for you. Come back for a second session to glaze and decorate how you want or select a color and I will dip in glaze and fire for you. All included in the $30 price. I have underglaze transfers and tons of glazes you can use.

To cancel or reschedule, please contact me at least 24 hours in advance. . A rescheduling fee of 25% may apply. Classes are for ages 18 and over unless specifically marked as all ages. Students must be at least 12 for the wheel throwing classes. If it's not included with the project, a glazing workshop can be added to your experience if you choose this finishing method. You may want other cold finishes depending on the item(s) made. Students may purchase their own clay or may use our recycled clay, and are limited to the quantity of items specified in the course description, but arrangements can be made for larger quantities of work. If it fits and works with my schedule, I will fire extra work for you at $.06/square inch. All materials for classes are provided including aprons, but students are encouraged to wear clothes that could get a little dirty. You may want to remove jewelry that you think might get in the way. Additional clay used beyond the amount allotted for the pieces can be purchased and should be labelled. Students may not bring their own clay due to issues that could arise with firing to the wrong temperature. To keep the space and participants healthy, no sanding of your work should take place in the studio. The last part of class will be cleaning and returning items to where they belong. Help to reduce waste and recycle clay that doesn't get used. Remember that clay has a memory and may warp or crack at the high temperatures needed for firing. Choose which pieces are your best to fire. Keep focused on learning and improving skills and techniques. It's good to be willing to remake a piece that you are not 100% satisfied you want to keep. All projects should be signed and covered with plastic when needed (and labelled while in process.) NEVER TOUCH ANOTHER STUDENTS' WORK WITHOUT PERMISSION. Clay can be more fragile than you think, especially as it goes through the firing process. I will work with you to help you make your own unique pieces of art that you are happy with, and I will make at least two efforts to contact you when work is finished. If your functional pieces could ever be used for food, you will be limited to FOOD SAFE glazes. Follow instructions to make sure that no glaze touches the kiln shelf. Damaged items will need to be replaced. Finished work needs to be picked up. Due to limited space, after more than six months, I cannot guarantee that I will hold it for you.
